About Playgroup SA
Playgroup SA is an incorporated association committed to helping all South Australian families discover the benefits of play for children’s development. Playgroup SA is a not-for-profit organisation funded by government and philanthropic grants, membership, and fundraising.
Each year, over 2,000 family members attend more than 190 playgroups across South Australia, including rural and regional communities. Playgroup SA provides practical, professional advice and support, training and development (including services for families with additional needs), broad insurance coverage, play resources, and playgroup workshops, among other services.
Over the past decade, Playgroup SA has undergone significant transformation, blending its 45+ years of heritage with a bold, modern identity. Recognised as a vital strategic asset, Playgroup SA is dedicated to nurturing young children, supporting families, and building stronger communities through high-quality playgroups across the state.
In February 2023, Playgroup SA achieved certification through external assessment with the Australian Service Excellence Standards. The assessment affirmed the organisation's ongoing commitment to service quality, positive culture, and professional evolution.
About the Opportunity
Playgroup SA is seeking to appoint two Non-Executive Directors with expertise in Human Resources or Information Technology to join their established governing Board. This is an excellent opportunity for suitably qualified and experienced individuals to contribute to shaping the future of the playgroup movement in South Australia.
Successful candidates will bring strategic thinking, the ability to influence collaboratively, and a clear passion for the role playgroups have in fostering development, connection, and community strength. Experience in the not-for-profit or community services sectors is essential, and an AICD qualification will be highly regarded.
Appointments will ensure a balanced mix of skills, experience, and diversity on the Board.
Key Skills and Expertise Sought
⢠Human Resources: Workforce planning, employment-related risk management, and organisational culture enhancement.
⢠Information Technology: Strategic IT planning, cybersecurity, and digital transformation.
Commitment
Appointed Directors are expected to commit sufficient time to meet their responsibilities, including attending Board meetings in Adelaide or online approximately once every four to six weeks, occasional interim meetings, and contributing to Board and committee activities. Directors will also be required to participate in at least one Board sub-committee to provide additional support and expertise.
